Liverpool now want to sign ‘unbelievable’ £80m forward alongside Wirtz and Ekitike - Insider

Liverpool could still revisit a move for long-term target and Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon in the coming months, according to reports - with former Premier League scout Mick Brown stating that, despite their moves for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, it won't stop them 'having a look' at the England international.

Gordon has been Newcastle's first-choice left-winger for two-and-a-half seasons, helping the Magpies to a Champions League spot in two of his three campaigns and forcing his way into the Three Lions squad on a regular basis as a result. Liverpool are interested in a deal that has previously been priced at £80million, and Arne Slot could continue his spending spree with a move for the 24-year-old.

Brown: Gordon 'On Liverpool's Radar', Sales Could Force a Move

The report by Brown via Football Insider states that Liverpool could step up their interest in Gordon - even after they've completed a deal to sign Wirtz.

The Reds are set to break the Premier League transfer record fee to land the German international, whilst they're also close to completing a deal for Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong - and a move for Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez is on the horizon.

But a 'big summer', as it was penned by Virgil van Dijk, may not stop there, with Brown stating that Gordon is 'still on their radar' as the Merseyside club look to retain their Premier League trophy next time out. He said:

“Anthony Gordon is still on their radar. He’s been one of the top names for Liverpool for a while. He’s a Liverpool lad, was at Everton before, and they know him very well.

“They’ve been talking about Wirtz as well, and it looks like that deal is going to happen and they’re getting closer to an agreement there. But that isn’t going to stop them having a look at Gordon.

“They’ve got a few players there; Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez and more who could leave, and those sales would open the door for Gordon to come in. If they keep those players, they won’t need both Gordon and Wirtz.

“But if they don’t, Gordon is a player they’re considering to come in as a direct replacement for the current attacking options, who Slot hasn’t been convinced on.”

Gordon made 65 top-flight appearances for Everton spread across four seasons, before departing for Newcastle in January 2023 for a fee of around £40million rising to £45million - and he's shone on Tyneside with 22 goals and 23 assists in just 106 games in the north-east, seeing him labelled as 'unbelievable' in the process.

A boyhood Liverpool fan, a return to Merseyside could be on the cards - especially if Luis Diaz leaves, which David Ornstein also failed to rule out earlier in the month.
