Sky Sports: West Ham now eyeing move to sign "world-class" star who wants to leave his club

West Ham have now entered the race to sign Caoimhin Kelleher this summer as they look to bolster their squad, according to Sky Sports News.

The Hammers had a disappointing season in 2024/25 as they sacked Julen Lopetegui following a poor start, with Graham Potter leading the side to a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League.

Now the Englishman wants to bring his own men into the squad to change the club's fortunes around for next season, and an upgrade in goal is now being eyed after Lukasz Fabianski was allowed to leave following the end of his contract.

Liverpool stopper Kelleher played a fair amount this season across all competitions, but only because first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker suffered several injuries throughout the campaign.

But he is now set to find himself relegated to third-choice option under Arne Slot behind both Alisson and new signing Giorgio Mamardashvili, which has left the Republic of Ireland international open to moving on in search of more regular first-team football.

Kelleher admitted that he will "definitely" consider an exit, and West Ham are now among the clubs showing an interest in the 26-year-old, who has been described as "world-class" by current teammate Virgil Van Dijk.

France international Alphonse Areola has been the first-choice goalkeeper at the London Stadium in recent seasons but after a poor showing in the last campaign as a team, Kelleher could be seen as an upgrade in goal.

Areola's contract at the club currently runs until 2027, with the option to extend for an extra year, but a move for Kelleher would surely mean the former PSG and Real Madrid man was relegated to second-choice with Kelleher desperate to play more regularly.

Brentford have already made contact with Liverpool and opened talks over a move for Kelleher and are said to be at the front of the queue for his signature, which means the Hammers must move quickly if they want to win the race.
