Newcastle United have ben linked with Manchester City ace Jack Grealish in recent weeks.
Alan Shearer believes Jack Grealish should avoid Newcastle United as Eddie Howe is stacked with left-wing options.
It is widely expected that the England international - a former British record signing at £100million, will leave Manchester City this summer. Grealish played just one minute of the final six Premier League games and was left on the bench for the FA Cup final.
He only started one top-flight fixture from December onwards despite City enduring an underwhelming campaign. Newcastle are one of several clubs linked with Grealish’s signature but wages could be an issue.
The 29-year-old is one of the division’s highest earners - raking in a whopping £350,000 per week. Anywhere in that ballpark would comfortably place him at the top of Newcastle’s payroll.
Alan Shearer raises position doubt
Toon legend Shearer, however, has highlighted Grealish’s position as a reason for him to seek a move elsewhere. Eddie Howe already has two England international - Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes - to choose from.
“I think Jack's best position is coming off the left,” Shearer told Betfair. “That's where we saw the best of him at Aston Villa and he was best there for Man City. That's the position where Newcastle are really strong. They've got Barnes and Gordon for that side so I'd be surprised if Newcastle were in for him.
“There's no doubt Jack is a talented lad and a really nice guy, he just lost his way at Man City for whatever reason and whenever that happens, you've just got to get out and play football again. It doesn't look as if there is a future for him at Man City. I know the questions Pep has faced towards the end of the season and I saw his answers.
“He's been as diplomatic as he could be and, don't forget, he's trying to protect the club because they have an asset that they may have to sell and if Pep says anything negative then that brings down the asset's price. From the outside looking in, it looks as if his future at Man City is done and he has to move on.”
Pep Guardiola on Jack Grealish future
City tactician Guardiola hinted at Grealish needing to move on following the end of the campaign. He said: “It was selection. The last two months, month and a half there were five or six players at home every time and this time I decided for these guys. No more than that.
"Of course, Jack has to play. He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it. With us or another place. It's a question for Jack, his agent and the club."

Grealish admitted earlier this year that he has struggled with a recent lack of game time. He said: “I want to start playing more often and have that rhythm - the way I was a couple of years ago when I was playing a lot of games in a row.
“I do find it difficult at times to come in and out of games, not really playing. Hopefully, I can keep training well and playing a few more games.”
