RB Leipzig concluded their competitive campaign on May 17th, but they had one post-season friendly against Santos on Wednesday night to wrap up 2024/25.

Benjamin Sesko is likely to leave Leipzig this summer, so Wednesday was potentially his last chance to play for the club. Yet he ended up missing the match.

German outlet Bild report that Sesko missed Tuesday’s training session with slight knee irritation, and he was seen to be in a little pain. Leipzig decided they’d prefer not to risk their most valuable asset by playing him in a friendly match in midweek.

Bild add that Leipzig are willing to open negotiations over Sesko’s transfer at €70m (£58.7m), though they’re hoping to push the bidding as high as €100m (£83.8m).

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interested, as well as Juventus and AC Milan in Italy. But Arsenal are “especially” positioning themselves for a move.

As it stands, Leipzig haven’t received any concrete offers for the Slovenian 21-year-old.

“The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It’s a great club to develop at,” Sesko said recently. “I just want to play for the club that’s fitting me, that brings out the best in me.

“I’m currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I’m taking it day by day. If [a transfer] happens, it happens, and if not, [then] not.”

Sesko scored 21 goals and assisted six in 45 appearances for Leipzig this season. Arsenal already made an attempt to sign him last year, but at the time he turned the offer down and opted to spend another season in Germany.

The Gunners do have one significant lure ahead of Leipzig this time around, as the German club have failed to qualify for any form of European football this season. By contrast, Arsenal will be involved in the Champions League in 2025/26.
