West Ham are already making moves in the transfer market ahead of a busy summer, with the window split either side of the Club World Cup.

Graham Potter is keen to reduce the average age of his squad, and the Hammers are also in need of more numbers in attacking positions.

West Ham’s disappointing campaign saw them finish in 14th place, but building for the future will ensure that disastrous transfer windows such as last summer’s do not happen again.

With this in mind, the Irons have been looking at Celtic striker Daniel Cummings for months, and everything is finally in place at the London Stadium.

Cummings has been outstanding this season

Fabrizio Romano (29 May) has now shared that West Ham will sign Cummings, paying a compensation fee to Celtic, and the 19-year-old will join on 1 July.

The compensation will amount to around £250,000, and he has already completed his medical and agreed a deal ahead of his move from Glasgow, releasing the famous “here we go” from Romano.

Cummings will join West Ham senior squad

Cummings is highly rated at Celtic and even made his first-team debut this season, playing 11 minutes in their Champions League defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

His remarkable youth record makes the teenager an exciting prospect, and it was recently reported that Cummings will join the West Ham senior squad when he arrives.

With Michail Antonio still absent, and Evan Ferguson leaving following his failed loan spell, Cummings can gain some gametime from the bench initially, and could further his development under Potter.

West Ham struggled for goals this season, with Niclas Fullkrug also suffering from injuries, and if Cummings can impress in pre-season, there could be a big role ahead for him.

Signing high-potential youngsters for bargain fees is a strategy which can pay off for West Ham in the long term, but they will need a few more attacking players this summer if they are to improve from this underwhelming season immediately.
