Manchester United players, past and present, have shown David de Gea support after the goalkeeper marked the end of his first season at Fiorentina.
De Gea, 34, joined the Italian club last summer after spending the whole 2023/24 season without a team following his departure from United. The former Spain international signed a one-year contract in Florence with an option for an additional season that they are seemingly keen to exercise.
Doing so reputedly would double the goalkeeper's annual salary to €2.4million (£2m). That equates to weekly wages of just under £40,000, far from his United earnings.
De Gea was the club's highest earner at £375,000 a week during his final four seasons at Old Trafford. Now two years removed from leaving, he has thanked his new club, their supporters and teammates now that the season has ended.
"The season comes to an end, and we have completed one of our aims - European football once again. I want to thank the club, my teammates, and the Fiorentina supporters - we always battled - fighting for the crest, and gave everything we had.
"Now is a time to relax and reflect. Forza Viola."
De Gea punctuated the post with a purple heart emoji and a fleur-de-lis symbol. The latter is the city's official emblem and is incorporated into their club crest.
Rio Ferdinand commented "My Gk" on the post, adding a red heart emoji. The former United goalkeeper Ben Foster also replied with three fire emojis.
Fellow ex-players Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams, Facundo Pellistri, Patrice Evra and Paul Pogba liked the post. Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were the two current squad members to do so.
