Are the Saints the worst team in the NFL?

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Projections for the New Orleans Saints in 2025-26 currently leave much to be desired.

New Orleans’ preseason ranking on the NFL Football Power Index falls dead last, 32nd of the 32 teams.

The rankings are based on statistical analysis that aims to predict the strength and future performance of each team.

While the outlook from data is bleak, there are several factors that, depending on how they go after the season starts, could skew the predicted outcomes.

The Saints’ biggest weakness in 2024 was their passing offense. A weak offensive line, a lack of stability under center, and injuries to receivers resulted in the poor showing. Taliese Fuaga was a bright spot on the offensive line, and rookie Kelvin Banks Jr. could provide much-needed help in the trenches.

Their biggest strength was their rush offense. Just shy of the age of 30, Alvin Kamara was 50 yards shy of 1,000 yards on the ground. Kamra suddenly finds himself as an elder statesman of the squad and is poised for another big season.

**MORE SAINTS**

The Saints have the second-easiest strength of schedule, but their biggest question heading into the next season is the quarterback position. Rookie Tyler Shough and second-year player Spencer Rattler are officially going head-to-head for the job.

None of the quarterbacks on the Saints’ roster has an NFL win on their resume, and much of their potential success will rely on who ultimately wins the battle and how they adjust moving forward.

Rattler has more pro experience but was 0-6 in New Orleans last season. Shough has big arm talent that can translate to the NFL, but his challenge will be growing with a team that is also developing the guys around him.

Many of the unknown factors surrounding the Saints are contributors to their 32nd ranking, but if those factors turn into net positives, the projected course can be better than expected.
