Report: Newcastle United brush £85m forward aside, they want ‘special’ player instead

Newcastle United have a shortlist of right winger targets, as they eye a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

The Magpies are desperate to bring in a right winger to compete with Jacob Murphy, as they prepare to return to the Champions League.

Newcastle have spoken to Bryan Mbeumo’s camp about a move to Tyneside, as they aim to beat Manchester United to his signature.

Man United want Mbeumo too, but the Magpies will hope that the lure of Champions League football and their exciting project will be enough to convince the 25-year-old that St James’ Park is the place to be.

However, the Brentford talisman is not the only option on Newcastle United’s radar.

Newcastle United scout three Premier League right wingers

As well as Mbeumo, the Magpies have looked at other wingers with Premier League experience.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United have scouted West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus and Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo.

However, the Northern Echo add that Mbeumo is Newcastle’s preferred option out of those three players, with Toon officials hoping to strike a deal for the Cameroon international.

How Bryan Mbeumo compares to Newcastle United’s other targets

As well as being Newcastle’s favourite, Mbeumo could be the cheapest option out of the trio.

It has been claimed that Brentford could sell Mbeumo for £54million, while Bournemouth want £70million for Semenyo.

As for Kudus, he has a release clause in his West Ham contract worth £85million.

That fee would make him Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.

As well as potentially being cheaper, the numbers back up why Eddie Howe is right to put Mbeumo at the top of his list of targets.

Mohammed Kudus 35 5 4

Antoine Semenyo 42 13 7

Mbeumo has had a ‘special’ season according to Gary Neville, and Toon officials will have confidence he can do just as well at Newcastle United if they can convince him to swap red and white for black and white.
