Matthew Stafford Was Judged for Sitting in 1st Class With Family in Coach

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was hit with some major side-eye during a recent plane ride with his family of six.

Stafford, 37, his wife, Kelly Stafford, and their four daughters - twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4 - took a trip to Texas last week to visit his parents and sister.

On the journey back to Los Angeles, Kelly, 35, explained they decided to book seats on a Delta flight instead of exploring more expensive options.

"I told Matthew, ‘Listen, point A to point B. There's a flight. Let's just get on it. It's fine,'" Kelly recalled Thursday, May 29 on her podcast, "The Morning After." "There were three first class seats left. I put him in first class. I put us in the back."

Kelly didn't tell Matthew about the seating arrangements "until we were checking in."

"He was like, ‘I'm gonna look like the biggest a**hole,'" she remembered her husband saying. "I go, ‘Listen, if people have time to consider you to be an a**hole because your 6'3" self is not gonna sit in the back with everyone in your family who is 5'3" and under, then they've got bigger issues.'"

Despite Kelly's insistence, however, some of the other passengers on the plane made their opinions very clear as they boarded.

"As we were getting on, you could tell he got looks," Kelly said. "Like, ‘Oh wait, we saw you get on with your family but you're up here.' And then you'd see them look for us in the back."

While her seatmates in economy class might have felt bad for her, Kelly said she and her daughters have become professional travelers.

"I'm very used to flying with my kids now," Kelly explained. "They know the deal. They're good. We don't have to worry about it."

Kelly recently revealed that their no frills travel philosophy has become a family trademark.

"We flew Southwest [Airlines] literally like a month ago," Kelly said on her podcast March 27. "[Matthew] and I and the kids. Listen, you do what you gotta do to get to where you need to be."

The Stafford girls' travel etiquette will hopefully come in handy this fall, when the Rams travel to play the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London. On an episode of her podcast earlier this month, Kelly revealed the entire family would be making the trek.

Kelly candidly admitted the journey "will f***ing suck," but said, "I love a little challenge."
