Sir Jim Ratcliffe receives £4.2bn reassurance that puts Man United well above Liverpool

Manchester United’s first full season under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos did not go to plan.

The 2024/25 season will go down as the worst in Manchester United’s Premier League history with the Red Devils finishing trophyless and 15th in the table.

It has been just as miserable off the pitch as it has on it with Ineos cutting over 400 jobs around Carrington and Old Trafford to manage the costs of the club.

Ratcliffe was booed by United staff when he made an appearance at the Europa League final – the Ineos ownership is beginning to be put in the same category as the Glazer family.

Man United club value will please Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Financially, it has been a terrible year for United and it has caused a lot of damage to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s wealth.

Ratcliffe has suffered a £6bn blow to his net worth which has sparked questions about whether or not he will stay on as owner or look to sell his stake.

However, a recent report from The Athletic points out that United still boasts one of the highest valuations of any football club across the globe.

Using data from the Football Benchmark Group, the report claims United are the third most valuable club in the world in terms of enterprise value.

United boast a value of £4.2 billion, which only ranks behind Manchester City and Real Madrid.

The Red Devils are still valued higher than the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and arch-rivals Liverpool despite the lack of success in recent years.

Man United are at risk of falling financially behind rivals

United have been a financial powerhouse thanks to the success from the Sir Alex Ferguson era, but rivals are quickly catching up.

Losing the Europa League final means that United won’t have any European football next season, which will put a huge dent in the club’s revenue.

United only earned £136.7 million from the Premier League after finishing 15th, and the Red Devils are also missing out on the extremely lucrative Club World Cup tournament taking place this summer.

United will miss out on over £100 million by not qualifying for the 2025/26 Champions League campaign, which will put the club under even more pressure to comply with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

United have already been overtaken by both Manchester City and Liverpool in terms of revenue generation, and a lack of success on the pitch risks the gap growing bigger.
