Jeremie Frimpong Sell-on Fee Sparks Conflicting Reports

Jeremie Frimpong is set to join Liverpool this summer, but there’s confusion over how much money Celtic will get from the move. Some reports said the club could earn around £7 million thanks to a sell-on clause from when they sold Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Record Sport now claims the figure will be closer to £3 million. The difference comes down to the final fee Liverpool pay.

If they meet Frimpong’s full release clause, believed to be around £34.2 million, then Celtic would earn a larger cut—around £7 million.

But if the fee is lower, around £30 million, as some reports suggest, then Celtic will get less, possibly just £3 million.

Frimpong has been a great example of Celtic’s transfer strategy. The club signed him from Manchester City for a small compensation fee, then sold him to Bayer Leverkusen for £11 million just 18 months later. Since then, he has impressed in Germany and become one of the top full-backs in Europe.

The Daily Mail report that Frimpong’s move to Liverpool will be made official on Sunday, June 1st, when the transfer window opens. Fans will be watching closely to see what fee is announced, and what that means for the money coming to Celtic.

If the full clause is triggered, Celtic will be due a significant payment, which could help with their own summer transfers. But if not, they’ll have to settle for a smaller amount.

Either way, the deal shows the value of smart signings and sell-on clauses. Frimpong’s rise also reflects well on the club’s ability to spot talent and give young players a platform to grow.
