Report: Newcastle willing to bid £68m to sign ‘world-class superstar’ alongside Mbeumo and Guehi

Newcastle United could look to complete a shock move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports - with his uncertain future in Spain potentially seeing him move on to Eddie Howe's squad in the coming weeks.

Rodrygo has been a key man for Madrid for the past six years, but his last league start for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit came in mid-April, missing out on the last five La Liga games for the 15-time Champions League winners. That could see him depart for Tyneside, with young Turkish star Arda Güler being preferred towards the end of the campaign.

The report by Fichajes states that Newcastle are looking to 'make a splash' in the transfer window, and have set their sights on Rodrygo as the 'attacking leader' of their project after qualification for the Champions League, alongside the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi.

The Magpies have been looking to add a world-class player to compete in their squad, and they see the Brazilian as the 'ideal candidate' to continue their adventures on the continent. Rodrygo has been at Real since June 2019, after a €45million (£40million) deal was announced a year before - and he currently has a record of 68 goals and 50 assists in 267 games for the Spanish giants, making his name as one of their most consistent attackers under departing boss Carlo Ancelotti.

With three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies and a Copa del Rey to his name, the forward has extensive experience to his name at the age of just 24, but with Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe outshining him in Madrid, it's changed his role and Newcastle have now positioned themselves as one of the main interested parties for the signature of the 'world-class superstar'.

The Premier League outfit are willing to make an investment of €80million (£68million) to land the attacker, which could open Real's door for him to leave.

It's thought his arrival would take the pressure off Alexander Isak to perform, and also boost Newcastle's profile on the European scene - though the outcome of any deal will depend on Real's decisions and Rodrigo's wishes.
