Iniesta delighted by Barcelona wonderkid’s contract renewal – ‘A truly unique talent’

Former FC Barcelona captain and club legend Andres Iniesta has described Lamine Yamal’s recent contract extension with the club as “fantastic news” and praised the youngster as “a unique talent.”

Lamine, just 17 years old, is already the face of this Blaugrana team and played an integral part in the club’s domestic treble this season.

Following an excellent campaign, Barcelona renewed the La Masia graduate’s contract earlier this year, securing his future until the summer of 2031.

Iniesta delighted

Speaking to the media, Iniesta expressed his delight at Barcelona renewing Yamal’s contract and stated that he hoped the youngster would bring many happy moments to the club in the future.

“It’s fantastic news for Barça fans that he will continue to be there,” said Iniesta, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“Hopefully, he can maintain that level and improve year after year because he is a truly unique talent. I hope he can give Barça a lot of joy,” the icon added.

Reflecting on his former club’s season, which saw them win the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup titles, Iniesta was very happy, as he said:

“It’s been a great season, winning two major titles (La Liga and Copa del Rey), reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and on the verge of reaching the final.

“And above all the feeling that the team transmits, that it is a young team with a lot of experience at the same time. If they continue on this path, I think they will be very close to being able to win titles every year.”
