AUSTIN, Texas – Entering year five of the Steve Sarkisian era at Texas, the Longhorns' football program has been built primarily through high school recruiting.
However, Sarkisian hasn't been shy about selectively using the transfer portal to fill a need at a position, should the program believe there's a shortage of bodies.
"When you look at us, when it comes to the portal, we're trying to fill needs and for a variety of reasons, we've had some real attrition at the defensive line spot," Sarkisian said during his media availability on May 2.
Texas signed five defensive tackles via the transfer portal this offseason and 11 players overall, with the hopes that one or more can have an immediate impact in the same vain as previous transfer additions.
Let's take a look back at the five most impact transfers over the first four seasons of Sarkisian's tenure in Austin.
No. 5 Ryan Watts
Previous school: Ohio State
About Watts:
Watts, a 6-foot-3-inch, 206-pound boundary cornerback, started 24 of 27 games the last two seasons for the Longhorns after transferring from Ohio State, where Watts redshirted in 2020 before playing in 11 games in 2021.
