Chelsea have banked more than £18million in prize money following their Conference League final victory, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League side beat Real Betis 4-1 in Wroclaw, Poland, to claim the European trophy on Wednesday (28 May).

Chelsea went in a goal behind at the break before Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo all found the net in the second half to secure the victory for their side.

It’s the first trophy the London giants have got their hands on since owners BlueCo purchased the club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

Chelsea eased their way through the early stages of the competition after winning all six of their games in the revamped league phase.

Enzo Maresca’s side then went on to beat Copenhagen, Legia Warsaw and Djurgarden in the knock-out rounds to set up the final showdown against Betis.

Chelsea have also earned their place in the Champions League for next season after finishing fourth in the Premier League table.

Chelsea blow West Ham out of the water

As per official Uefa documents, each team earned a guaranteed £2.7million for playing in the Conference League this season.

They also received extra cash payments under the governing body’s new value pillar system, which is split into European and non-European segments based on their coefficient ranking and the market pool.

Clubs were awarded £335,000 for each win in the league phase, meaning Chelsea banked £2million after winning all six of their fixtures.

The west London club also received £670,000 for qualifying automatically for the last 16 as well as £335,000 for finishing in the top eight.

The 36 clubs competing in the Conference League have been paid an additional amount based on their individual ranking in the league phase, with Chelsea landing a further £830,000 after finishing top.

Their run to the final saw them scoop up an extra £6.6million, while the victory over Betis was worth £2.5million.

Sources have told Football Insider Chelsea have earned around £18.2million in total prize money, including the payments from the value pillar system.

That is more than the £17.3million West Ham generated from the Conference League following their final success over Fiorentina in 2023.

Chelsea get Rafael Leao boost as door opens for deal

Stamford Bridge chiefs are now putting plans in place for next season following the club’s qualification for the Champions League.

Football Insider revealed on 29 May Chelsea are set for a boost in their long-term pursuit of Rafael Leao heading into the summer transfer window.

Maresca’s side are again on the hunt for a new left-sided winger, with the club unlikely to go through with their purchase of loan star Jadon Sancho.

Sources say Chelsea could have a “window of opportunity” to sign Leao after AC Milan have failed to qualify for any kind of European football for next season.
