The announcement earlier this month that NFL players have been cleared to compete in the recently added Flag Football event for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles has naturally led to a lot of intriguing as to which NFL stars will ultimately represent Team USA in the event.
Football players all across the country have been longing to represent their country in the Olympic Games. So naturally, most would assume that the best players in the NFL would jump at the opportunity to partake in the event.
However, when it comes to Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, the unquestioned best quarterback in the NFL at the moment, that is seemingly not the case.
Mahomes addressed the topic during a conversation with reporters on Thursday, detailing how he plans to “leave that to the younger guys” and not partake in the 2028 summer games.
“I’ll probably leave that to the younger guys,” said Mahomes, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

To be fair to Mahomes, he will be 32 years of age by the time the 2028 Summer Olympics come around, which is nearing the age where health is at a premium at the NFL. It would be wise to do everything possible to stay health and play in the NFL as long as possible at the highest level.
Still, participating in the Olympics does present Mahomes a possibility to separate himself from Tom Brady in the GOAT debate by becoming the first gold medal-winning quarterback in the history of the NFL, a luxury Brady never got to attempt to do.
Clearly, Mahomes is prioritizing his NFL career over the Olympics. And given his pursuit of chasing Tom Brady’s seven Super Bowl championships, it’s truly hard to blame him for this decision.
