Everton finished their season on a high as they defeated Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premier League at St James’ Park.
That end summed up the good work done by David Moyes, who drove the Toffees to Premier League safety in style, having looked in trouble when he arrived.
Now that the campaign has concluded, clubs can reflect on their successes as well as their failings.
With that in mind, Everton have made an announcement about their central midfielder, Idrissa Gueye.

Idrissa Gueye singled out by Everton
Several players deserve immense praise for lifting Everton well clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Jordan Pickford’s performance at St James’ Park showed why he is regarded as such a key player for the North West club, making several saves.
Elsewhere, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite have drawn praise at different points of the Premier League season.
Gueye is often overlooked as he goes about his game in an efficient, professional manner, not basking in the headlines in the middle of the park.
However, Everton have taken notice of his consistent form, with a double scoop at their end-of-season awards.
The 35-year-old was named the Men’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season after a standout 2024/25 season, with images being shared from Finch Farm on 29 May.
Gueye missed just one top-flight game this term and is out of contract this summer.

Everton need long-term Gueye replacement
There is no doubt that Gueye has been exceptional for Everton this season, but at 35, they will need a replacement for the Senegal international.
Of course, the North West club possess James Garner, who has shown he has what it takes to perform in the defensive-midfield role.
However, Moyes will need more options beyond Garner and should dip into the transfer market for an alternative.
It appears the Toffees’ prime focus is on attacking players, with Liam Delap and Jack Grealish earmarked as potential targets.
Delap, however, looks set to play his football elsewhere as he has reportedly chosen to join Chelsea.
Everton cannot rest on their laurels as they prepare for a significant summer and should pursue a defensive midfielder, who can work alongside and eventually take over from Gueye.
For now, a new contract is certainly needed for next season.
