Gabriel Magalhaes is set to sign a new contract at Arsenal following swift and productive talks with Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta.
Despite having two years remaining on the deal he signed in 2022, the Brazil international is ready to commit his long-term future to the club on improved terms. It should end any speculation of a move after he was pursued by Saudi clubs two summers ago.
BBC Sport reports that an agreement is close, and from what we’re hearing, it’s essentially a done deal. An official announcement is expected soon.
The centre-back appeared to hint at the development on social media earlier this week, posting: “God is great! There is still more to come! See you soon.”
Make of that what you will.
Gabriel has made 210 appearances for the Gunners since joining from Lille in 2020 and has become a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s back line.
He’s currently working his way back to full fitness following hamstring surgery, with hopes of being ready for the start of pre-season.
Good news.
