Angel Di Maria and his illustrious career

Back in 2007, the Argentina international moved to Benfica, marking his first European club after joining from his boyhood club Rosario Central.

Three years, 124 games, 15 goals, 28 assists and three trophies later, and Di Maria was on his way to Real Madrid for £28 million.

Di Maria spent four years in the Spanish capital, where he made 190 appearances, scoring 36 goals and grabbing 85 assists, helping the side win the Champions League, UEFA Supercup, LaLiga and three domestic trophies.

Then in 2014, Di Maria moved to Old Trafford in his most expensive transfer of his career, £63 million.

Unfortunately the Argentine didn’t add to his trophy cabinet whilst with United, however grabbed four goals and 11 assists in his only season at the club before moving to PSG where he stayed for seven years.

It was in Paris that Di Maria racked up the most goals and domestic trophies for any of his clubs, scoring 93 goals with 119 assists in 295 games, winning five Ligue 1 titles and eight domestic cups.

Then in the summer of 2022, Di Maria moved to Juventus on a free transfer fresh off the back of winning the World Cup, an international victory which was one of three consecutive cup wins, lifting the two Copa Americas either side of the tournament, in 2021 and 2024.

After a season with Juventus, Di Maria agreed to another free transfer back to Benfica as he now gets ready to head back to Argentina, with Fabrizio Romano announcing his return to Rosario Central.
