Manchester United are planning to hold talks with one of Arsenal’s transfer targets as Rúben Amorim prepares for a busy summer transfer window.
Manchester United have made no secret of their plans to rebuild their squad this summer, with manager Ruben Amorim set to bring in a wealth of players over the next few months.
There are a number of high-profile players who look set to leave, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony amongst the exodus unfavoured by Amorim. One player whose future is seemingly in the balance is goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Since joining in 2023, Onana has been the subject of much scrutiny, making a multitude of high-profile mistakes that have cost United in key games.
Therefore, it comes as little surprise that the Red Devils appear to be keen to sign another shot-stopper before next season rolls around, with a Barcelona and Arsenal transfer target currently in their crosshairs.
United looking to hold talks this week
According to a report from Caughtoffside, United are after the signature of highly rated Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, with the club hoping to hold talks about a possible deal in the coming days.
Other clubs reportedly interested include Arsenal, Newcastle, and Manchester City, although Barcelona remains the frontrunner at the moment, even if the player himself hasn’t confirmed he’s definitely moving.
Out of the Premier League clubs reportedly interested, United appear to be doing the most to move for the “superb” young shotstopper.
This makes sense, though, when you look at the calibre of each team’s number one, with Onana surely being the worst of the lot.
United desperately need a world-class goalkeeper
In the past, United have always had great goalkeepers, whether it was Edwin Van Der Sar, Peter Schmeichel, or- more recently- David De Gea. Traditionally, the Red Devils never seemed to struggle for quality between the sticks.
More recently, however, United’s success has dwindled massively, with Andre Onana high on fans’ list of players to blame when performances have been bad.

Due to his string of high-profile mistakes, fans have been crying out for the club to bring in some real quality in goal, and Garcia looks like he could fit the bill. His arrival would mean “useless” Onana would be free to leave this summer amid Saudi Arabian interest.
The 24-year-old has a fairly affordable price tag too, with his release clause set at just over £20 million.
Considering United paid over double that figure for Onana, if this move does materialise, it could end up looking like a bargain in years to come.
