Harry Maguire has claimed that “a lot of players will leave” Manchester United this summer in a strong statement made to the media.
Manchester United are heading into the new season with tons of pressure following on from their dismal performances last term.
Ruben Amorim’s men need to show immediate improvement after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, with several signings needed.
Matheus Cunha is on the verge of becoming a United player, while other targets are also being chased by the Reds. They were unable to convince Liam Delap to pick them over Chelsea.
Even with all of the additions in the world, the players currently at the club need to be looking at themselves in the mirror and thinking how they can improve.
Some of them will not get the opportunity to redeem themselves at Old Trafford, with player sales expected to also be key for United this summer.
Maguire says a lot of United players will leave
It has already been confirmed that Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen will leave the club when their contracts expire next month.
The senior players on loan – Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia – are also expected to depart permanently this summer.
Harry Maguire has suggested that other players will be leaving the club in a strong statement during interviews in Mumbai on Thursday.
The defender, along with Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana, travelled to India after United’s post-season friendly in Maleysia for commercial purposes and they were interviewed by NDTV.
Asked about United’s poor season, Maguire pulled no punches. “Players have to take responsibility,” he said. “We slipped in the Premier League. We were more focused on the Europa League, but that’s no excuse.
“It’s Manchester United—we can’t accept where we are. There will be a lot of players who will leave. Things have to change.”
Why United clear-out actually seems likely
United fans have been begging for a proper clear-out for so many years but this summer feels like it could finally be slightly different.
After biting the bullet and sending multiple players on loan, their success away from Old Trafford has made permanent sales more likely.
The case of Alejandro Garnacho, who is very likely to leave, also proves that those in charge aren’t scared of making some tougher decisions in terms of player sales. Without any European football, it also is unnecessary for United’s squad to be large.

Funnily enough, in the recent years where a clear-out has been demanding, Maguire was probably one of the first names most fans wanted out. Now, he’s almost guaranteed to stay after being one of the few players to hold their head somewhat high from last term.
