Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has hinted that Alejandro Garnacho could stay at the club next season amid speculation regarding his future.
The Argentina international was dropped from the starting line-up for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur last week. He came on as a late substitute.
Garnacho was far from pleased with the manager’s decision and refused to rule out a potential exit.
Amorim subsequently dropped the winger from the matchday squad against Aston Villa after reports that the 20-year-old has been told to find a new club this summer.
The Red Devils boss has now distanced himself from the speculation by saying that he hopes to have Garnacho in the squad next season. He added that ‘everything’ is fine with the player.
He said in today’s presser: “Alejandro is a really good player and we need good players in the team. I know Garna really well, so I hope to have Garna next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now.”
United are still likely to part ways with Garnacho
Garnacho had a difficult Premier League campaign with only six goals and two assists but ended the season with a decent tally of 21 goal contributions from 58 appearances in all competitions.
The Argentine has had to adapt to the number 10 role under Amorim and has yet to find his best form. His future is now hanging in the balance after the club’s decision to sign Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.
Cunha is set to add competition for places for the two attacking midfield positions. The hierarchy could also pursue another attacker. They have an interest in landing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
This is a high possibility that Garnacho could depart as a result. Amorim is unlikely to mention this in public, as it could hamper United’s prospects of securing a premium fee for the attacker.
United could reportedly hold out for £65 million amid interest from Chelsea and Napoli. The sale of the club graduate would provide pure profit under the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
