The new Jaylen Brown trade rumors are obvious (and fake)

[Shams Charania of ESPN](https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1927407892115722723) reported that the Boston Celtics will have to evaluate everyone on their roster this summer in terms of trades, but the Jaylen Brown trade rumors spins are as obvious as they are fake:

“They’re going to make trades,” Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show. “The Boston Celtics will have a much different roster next season, potentially… You look at Jayson Tatum, of course, he’s injured, can’t really trade him, that’s really the face of your franchise. After that, it’s really going to depend on what value can you get. I think teams are going to express a lot of interest in Jrue Holiday. Teams are going to inquire about Kristaps Porzingis. Teams are going to inquire about Jaylen Brown. And I think the Celtics are going to have to identify, ‘What value can we get for each of these players?’”

That’s a lot of words for not a lot of reporting.

**What does this mean for Jaylen Brown?**

-----------------------------------------

First and foremost, Charania was directly asked about what the Celtics are going to do this summer, so he gave an honest response. However, his response [isn’t anything new](https://hardwoodhoudini.com/boston-celtics-shams-charania-report-confirms-trade-fears-dreading-months-kristaps-porzingis-jrue-holiday-jayson-tatum-jaylen-brown-derrick-white). He simply restated everything that everyone has been saying about the Celtics for the past month since Jayson Tatum got injured.

However, the part that most people clung to was the tidbit about Brown and how teams around the league are going to be inquiring about him.

Rather than shutting down the conversation, Charania said that the Celtics would have to assess the value they could get back in a deal and go from there.

But that means nothing.

Obviously, the Celtics are going to assess the value they could get back in any trade. If the Oklahoma City Thunder came calling and proposed a deal that would swap Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and five first-round picks for Jayson Tatum, the Celtics would assess their options. The Thunder would never do that and Boston doesn’t want to lose the face of their franchise, but that’s the nature of the business.

So, if a team comes calling and offers an insane package for Brown, of course, the Celtics will consider their options and see what they want to do.

That doesn’t mean they are going to actively look to trade Brown, nor does it mean that they want to get rid of him.

**Will the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown?**

----------------------------------------

There is no way to know for sure what the Celtics will do this summer, but unless they get an astronomical offer, trading Brown doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Boston has established that it can win at the highest level with Tatum and Brown leading the way, so moving on from him because Tatum will be out for one season isn’t worth it. If anything, this could be the perfect chance for him to improve even more as an individual.

Obviously, if a monster offer comes in, the Celtics will have to think about it, but Charania’s report said absolutely nothing about them shopping Brown.
