After being a top 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, things haven’t gone very smoothly for Evan Neal with the New York Giants.
Since joining the team, Neal has struggled in pass protection at right tackle and has battled injuries throughout his three seasons causing him to miss a total of 22 games across his NFL tenure.
Despite the issues, the team is still looking to work with Neal as a starter but at a different position.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed while speaking with the media that Neal would be taking reps at guard during OTA’s.
“Evan’s a smart guy,” Daboll said. “He’ll be out there today. We will work him at guard, and I know he’s excited about the opportunity he has.”
Despite shifting away from his intended position, Neal is a versatile player which he demonstrated at Alabama as early as his freshman season where he started at left guard. Accompanying his positional flexibility, Neal still brings elite size and length to a Giants line that needs to put things together.
“He’s a big man. He’s got length. He’s obviously a little big taller than I’d say traditional guards, but he’s played it,” Daboll said. “He’s played a number of positions since he’s been at University of Alabama. He’s been working hard this last month and a half and look forward to getting him out there.”
