Arsenal are in advanced talks over a new contract for key defender Gabriel Magalhaes, according toa report by Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport.
The Gunners are said to be close to agreeing a new deal with the Brazil international, whose current terms expire in 2027. Discussions with Gabriel have accelerated after sporting director Andrea Berta was reported to have made them a priority in March.
Gabriel has become a core member of Mikel Arteta's squad and to be wrapping up a new contract that will see him remain in north London until 2030, committing his long-term future to the club, is brilliant business.
Arsenal in advanced contract talks with Gabriel
Since joining the club in 2020, Gabriel has become a key member of Arsenal's progression under Arteta and has helped them mount two title challenges and secure three consecutive second-place finishes.
Making headlines in a number of games, he has been a solid force in defence, but has also contributed significantly in attack, scoring 20 goals in 210 appearances for the Gunners. His brilliant form continued in the 2024/25 season, in which he was one of his side's best players.
Gabriel's campaign ended prematurely however when he suffered a hamstring injury in a 2-1 win over Fulham in April, preventing him from helping his side force an admittedly unlikely comeback in the Premier League title race.
As a result of his consistent brilliance, he has attracted rumours of a move away from north London in recent years, and came close to leaving for Saudi Arabia amid a spell out of the starting XI in the early stages of the 2023/24 season, but was told to reject the opportunity by Arteta.
There is no doubt that with only two years left on his current deal, Gabriel would have been subject to more interest this summer so to be tying him down to a new long-term contract is brilliant and crucial business by the club.
