Bucks $48 Million Vet Addresses Future With the Franchise Amid Contract Decision

Giannis Antetokounmpo isn't the only player who has drawn concern for the Milwaukee Bucks in the upcoming offseason. Backup center Bobby Portis Jr. has an upcoming decision regarding his contract this summer. The former Sixth Man of the Year has a $13.4 million player option that he could either exercise or opt out of, and be an unrestricted free agent.

Portis' four-year $48 million contract is about to end. And given that he's just turned 30, he might ask for a long-term deal from the Bucks. That could come if he opts out of his player option this summer. Also, the 6-foot-10 big man could get another long deal if he exercises the final year and signs a new contract in the summer of 2026.

On Thursday, Portis appeared as a guest on FanDuel TV's "Run It Back." During his time on the show, he revealed his thoughts on his decision regarding his contract with the Bucks.

"You talkin' about taking short deals and to stay here, to help sacrifice winning. But we here now," Portis said. "I’m thankful I’m blessed. But, at the same time, it got to make sense though.

Michelle Beadle, one of the hosts, asked if Portis has thought of what deal the Bucks should offer him next. The frontcourt player playfully answered with this:

"I definitely have it in my brain, but I need them to have it in they brains, too."

Portis has been a part of the Bucks since 2020. Ever since he joined the team, the team has been competitive. The former 22nd pick out of Arkansas has proven to be a valuable piece. Over the past three seasons, he's been considered one of the top candidates to win the Sixth Man of the Year.

Throughout the five years Portis has been in Milwaukee, he's averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds.
