'We have time': Iraola relaxed over contract talks with focus on pre-season

Iraola led Bournemouth to a record-equalling ninth place in the Premier League this season, with a record points haul and a slew of other records, including goals scored and most wins.

It is not uncommon to hear Cherries fans chanting for ‘ten more years’ for the boss who has taken the side to two of their best seasons in their 125-year history.

This has led to reports linking Iraola to jobs elsewhere – but he has a season left on his current contract and is relaxed with his current situation.

Iraola has said on a number of occasions that he is used to having only one year deals in Spain and having contract talks each summer – but he was handed a two-season deal when he arrived on the south coast.

_(Image: Richard Crease)_ That original contract was set to run out this summer, but after an impressive first season in charge, Iraola signed an extension to take him to the end of the 2025/26 season.

Asked after the win over Leicester on the final day of the season if he would be in touch with owner Bill Foley, Iraola said: “For sure we will interchange messages today, tonight for sure. We are in touch.

“He's not here, he comes sometimes, but with everyone, not only with him, everyone involved in the club. Our connection is every week almost.”

On his contract situation, Iraola continued: “For me we will have time to speak about this.

“I think we have a very good relationship. It's not something that we will do next week.

“Still I have one year more of contract. That for me is a lot.

“And for me the concern right now is to prepare well for pre season, start of the season, win games, get good results, because otherwise you will not ask me more about the renewals and this, you have to win games first, do your job and earn these things.”
