Leeds United could wreck Newcastle transfer plan as Callum Wilson speaks out

Leeds United have once again secured their place in the Premier League, with supporters eagerly anticipating the start of the season in August.

Daniel Farke's team dominated the EFL Championship in the 2024/25 season alongside Burnley, amassing an impressive 100 points over 46 matches. It's been a challenging and exhausting campaign for the Whites, but they've now reaped the reward of a spot in English football's top tier following last season's heart-wrenching defeat to Southampton in the playoff final.

Focus will now shift towards the summer transfer window, which opens on Sunday, June 1 this year. Below are some of the latest Whites headlines as well as a view on each one...

Coventry claim

Leeds United News claim that the Whites will go head-to-head with Newcastle in a bid to sign Coventry City playmaker Jack Rudoni following his standout first season with the Sky Blues.

It is claimed that an official approach to the Midlands outfit for the 23-year-old has yet to be made. However, there is said to be definite interest from the Elland Road hierarchy in bringing Rudoni to the club for their return to the top flight, with Newcastle United also keeping tabs on the midfielder, as per the Daily Mail.

LeedsLive says: "The dilemma for Leeds will be whether they need to sign Premier League experience and that will lead to doubts over Rudoni. However, it may be a risk worth taking if they can get him for a decent fee this summer."

Wilson view

Callum Wilson admits he has found it difficult playing second fiddle to Alexander Isak at Newcastle, amid transfer links with Leeds.

"You go from being first choice striker to then being second choice striker,” he told the High Performance Podcast in an emotional interview.

“Every game there is not even a contest on who starts at the moment, and rightly so. In my absence over the last 18 months, Alex has just gone to another level which is fantastic for the team. It’s helped us improve so much.

“Then obviously my role changes and you have to put your pride and ego to the side, put the team first and know what the team needs in that moment. If I can’t be a big part on the pitch, what can you do off it? How can you help other players? How can you still be you without acting and being disappointed?

“It’s difficult, but I think I’m getting the balance right. I’ve gone through dips and all sorts of emotions, especially being out of contract in the summer.

"There’s a lot of emotions throughout this season that have been different challenges to face and new challenges that I’ve never faced before.”

LeedsLive says: "Callum Wilson would be an excellent signing for the club. The fact that Isak looks set to stay at St James' Park should make Wilson's exit more likely this summer, which will be music to the Whites' ears."
