Boston is expected to explore major trades this offseason—including possibly moving Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis—and could apply for a Disabled Player Exception following Jayson Tatum's Achilles injury.

According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Celtics could face up to $500 million in combined payroll and luxury tax penalties, with 11 players currently under contract for next season.
Boston will likely explore the trade market to stay competitive under tighter spending limits.
As noted by Nelson Espinal of Sports Illustrated, the biggest team stars such as Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis are expected to be on the trade block.
Derrick White and Jaylen Brown are also available, as the team looks to retool and gather additional assets.

According to Brian Robb of MassLive, the Celtics may apply for a Disabled Player Exception in addition to potential trades. This wouldn't provide cap relief, but it could give the team some added flexibility to sign or trade for a key player.
"Tatum is set to make $54.1 million next year, and every dollar will still count against the cap despite his injury," Robb explained. "A tough reality in the NBA."
Boston won the 2024 NBA championship but was eliminated in the second round of this year's playoffs by the New York Knicks, 4–2.
