Amid the shock of Paul Mitchell’s looming departure, Newcastle United still need to sort out Alexander Isak’s contract situation.
The 25-year-old has been due to be offered a new deal this summer, with Newcastle confident that Isak will extend his contract.
His current deal runs until 2028, but the Magpies are keen to offer him a pay rise after scoring 52 goals over the past two seasons. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want Isak to be their highest-paid player.
Those negotiations were expected to dominate most of the post-season chat on Tyneside, but the landscape changed when it was announced that Paul Mitchell will be leaving Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe to step up for Alexander Isak contract talks
The sporting director is on his way out of St James’ Park, with Newcastle searching for his replacement.
Eddie Howe will be involved in that search, while he is also going to be involved in the attempt to get Isak to sign on the dotted line.
According to Give Me Sport, Howe is going to play a leading role in contract negotiations with Isak following the announcement over Mitchell’s future.
Howe will make Isak’s contract situation a priority, with the Newcastle United manager set to be more involved in the club’s ‘business matters’ in what Give Me Sport describe as a ‘major twist’.

The announcement regarding Mitchell’s future coincides with Darren Eales’ expected departure. It was announced in September 2024 that Eales was stepping down from his role as CEO due to health reasons.
He has remained at the club during the search for his successor, with a replacement not far away from being announced.
Whose contracts are expiring at Newcastle United
It is vital that Newcastle United sort Isak’s future out. A new deal will definitively end talk of a move away, while failure to strike an agreement could result in sharks circling.
However, the Magpies do have the comfort of knowing that Isak still has three years remaining on his current deal.
In contrast, there are multiple Toon players whose contracts are set to expire in June.
Newcastle are in talks with Callum Wilson over a new deal. His contract is due to expire, and Wilson appeared to say goodbye after the Magpies’ game against Everton on Sunday.
Elsewhere, goalkeepers John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie are set to become free agents unless extensions are signed.
Finally, Jamal Lewis and Jay Turner-Cooke are entering the final weeks of their Newcastle United contracts. Fresh terms are not anticipated.
