Managing Newcastle United - Jack Grealish transfer completed as Guehi signs amid Isak boost

Jack Grealish applauds the fans after the Premier League match between Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth.

Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Newcastle ahead of the summer transfer window.

It could be a big summer for as prepares his team for a return to the .

The Magpies sealed their place in the top five of the Premier League on the final day of the season last weekend. Despite a 1-0 home loss against Everton, results elsewhere, most notably Aston Villa’s loss against Manchester United, prompted celebrations around St James’ Park.

The work in preparation for the 2025/26 season would have already begun with Eddie Howe and his backroom team working to shape the squad ahead of the new season.

Newcastle could have the chance to add to their squad soon with a mini transfer window opening on Sunday (Jun 1). It then closes on Tuesday, 10 June, before re-opening on June 16.

As we wait for the window to officially open, ChronicleLive looks at just some of the things that we'd want to see happen in the next few weeks if we were in charge.

Alexander Isak stays

This should be number one on the list in the transfer window, and looks likely to be the case, especially with Champions League football having been secured.

Newcastle are likely to have to see off interest in their star man in the summer, most notably Arsenal, but a reported price tag of at least £150 million looks likely to ward them off.

Isak has been integral to United since arriving at the club in 2022. They will be hoping that continues for years to come.

Marc Guehi and Jack Grealish sign

Playing Champions League football next season means that Howe will have to add to his squad for them to be able to cope with the extra games that come with qualification.

Two players who have been heavily linked are Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Manchester City’s Jack Grealish. Both players would add a good quality to Newcastle’s squad.

The Magpies are likely to come up against resistance from Crystal Palace for Guehi, especially as they now have their own European adventure to think about following their FA Cup win. Newcastle also face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.

If they can get a deal over the line, it would be a key statement in the transfer window.

As for Grealish, it may be an easier deal to do, given his lack of game time at Man City in the season just gone. Latest reports suggest that City may be willing to send the player out on a season-long loan, which would be good news fore Newcastle.

Callum Wilson decision

There is still uncertainty over the future of striker Callum Wilson at St James’ Park. The forward is due to be out of contract in the summer but has been offered a new contract by the club who are awaiting a decision over his future.

Wilson has been linked with a move to newly-promoted Leeds United. He has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle, something that he has admitted that he has found hard.

The club are on the lookout for a new striker in the summer to provide competition to Isak. They seem to have missed out of Liam Delap, who is closing in on a move to Chelsea, meaning they will have to move on to other targets. The priority that a new striker could take in the window could depend on the decision that Wilson makes over his future.

Staying with the club means he’s a striking option. But if he leaves, it would make the move for a new forward even more of a priority for the club.
