Bruno Fernandes seriously considering leaving Manchester United for Al-Hilal

After five-and-a-half years with Man United, Bruno Fernandes' time at the club could be about to come to an end.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is giving serious consideration to joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Fernandes's agent, Miguel Pinho, has held discussions with Al-Hilal about a mooted £100million transfer and United have refused to rule out his possible sale.

Al-Hilal are eager to conclude a deal quickly so Fernandes, 30, can play for them in the Club World Cup in the United States next month.

United sources are relaxed about the situation, with the club prepared to listen to offers for any squad member after they finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst top-flight finish since relegation in 1974.

After United's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last week, Fernandes cast doubt on his future by suggesting the club could "cash in" on him.

United signed Fernandes from Sporting in January 2020 for a fee rising to £67.7million and he has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award in four out of six seasons at the club.

However, United have endured some of their worst campaigns in living memory with Fernandes, who was a losing European finalist with United for the second time in Bilbao nine days ago.

Fernandes was United's top scorer in 2024-25 with 19 goals and he retained the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. The Portugal international is on United's post-season tour in Hong Kong and has remained professional as he continues to carry out his responsibilities as club captain.

United head coach Ruben Amorim said on Tuesday that Fernandes "is really important for us and what we want to build for the team. We talk about this many times.

"You can see by his performances. You can see by his leadership. You can see the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments, Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do because he is the captain."

Fernandes' Portugal career would not be in jeopardy if he moves to Saudi Arabia. Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruben Neves both continued to be picked by national team coach Roberto Martinez despite playing in the Gulf state.
