Man United identify possible Onana replacement

Manchester United continue their post-season tour of Asia with a game against Hong Kong on Friday afternoon.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by ASEAN All-stars in the first match of the tour on Wednesday, and Ruben Amorim will want to see his side improve in Friday’s friendly.

United have endured a dismal campaign and finished 15th in the Premier League table, meaning they will not feature in Europe next term.

Amorim and those steering the club’s recruitment will likely want to overhaul their squad this summer, and it appears that they have now identified a Ligue 1 star as a possible new signing.

According to CaughtOffside, Man United are interested in Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as a possible replacement for Andre Onana.

The report suggests that United are keen to add a new ‘keeper to Amorim’s squad, with Onana having struggled ever since arriving at Old Trafford in 2023.

The Cameroonian has made a number of high profile errors and has proven costly for Amorim’s side at times, and it is claimed that Chevalier has been identified as a potential replacement.

Chevalier, 23, is a product of Lille’s youth system and has now played 127 times for the French club across all competitions, keeping 44 clean sheets in total.

United could face competition in the race to land Chevalier, however, with Premier League rivals Aston Villa having already lodged an offer of around £40 million for the Frenchman.

The Villans could lose Emiliano Martinez this summer and Unai Emery is therefore keen to replace the Argentine sooner rather than later.

Chevalier is under contract with Lille until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the report suggests that he could depart his current club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
