Liverpool have made a new offer to Florian Wirtz according to German outlet BILD.
It is believed that the player wants the transfer wrapped up before he joins Germany’s UEFA Nations League squad on June 2.
Liverpool have tabled an initial bid exceeding €100 million (£85 million) for the 22-year-old German international, who has already made it clear to Bayer Leverkusen that he wants to join the Premier League champions.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, capped 29 times by Germany, played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s landmark 2023-24 Bundesliga title win, earning recognition as the league’s Player of the Season.
He has just completed another outstanding campaign, recording 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.
Now BILD have revealed the next offer that the Anfield club have made.
German reporter Axel Hessian reveals the latest:
“Liverpool have made an offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz of £100m plus £10-£12m in add ons (€130.5m-€133m).”
“Leverkusen are demanding a transfer fee of 150 million euros. Liverpool is trying to reduce the total package to around 135 million euros.”
“Since Liverpool and Leverkusen are not very far apart in the overall package, a quick agreement seems likely.”
Leverkusen are known to be tough negotiators regarding payment installments, but all parties are optimistic that an agreement will be finalized soon.
The proposed outlay would smash Liverpool’s previous transfer record, set at £85 million for Darwin Nunez.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos has endorsed the move, claiming that his compatriot is capable of performing at any of Europe’s elite clubs:
“If he thinks thats the best next step for him and his career, then that’s good. You can technically only judge decisions like this afterwards, of course.”
“He [Wirtz] is a player who can prevail at any club in the world in my opinion,” he said as quoted by Bulinews.
“It doesn’t matter if it would’ve been Bayern or Liverpool, it’s different from being at Leverkusen for sure – but he has all the tools to assert himself at any given top club.”
