Man City chasing ‘versatile’ Ligue 1 star

This summer could be an interesting one for Manchester City, with plenty of potential incomings and outgoings at The Etihad.

Legendary midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will leave City when his contract expires at the end of next month, ending a staggeringly successful decade-long spell in Manchester.

There are also doubts over the futures of Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Kyle Walker, but manager Pep Guardiola will be keen to bolster his squad too.

With that in mind, it has emerged that the Citizens are eyeing a move for a Ligue 1 star.

As per Football Insider, City are pursuing a move for Lyon star Rayan Cherki as they admire his versatility and want to take advantage of his relatively low release clause.

The report claims that the 21-year-old’s release clause is set at just £20 million, which has alerted a number of clubs including City.

Cherki is widely regarded as one of the most talented young attacking players in Europe and has enjoyed a fine season for Lyon, netting 12 timed and providing 20 assists in 44 games for the French side.

The Frenchman is capable of operating in a number of different roles including as an attacking midfielder or a winger on either flank.

His versatility is said to be something that City admire, as Guardiola looks to bolster his squad and get his side to once again challenge for the Premier League title after a disappointing campaign this season.

It is even claimed that some at City see Cherki as the ‘perfect fit’ to join Guardiola’s squad, especially with De Bruyne departing in the coming weeks.

The youngster is under contract until the end of next season but, with his release clause so low, City could trigger it and attempt to sign the player during the upcoming summer window.
