Mikel Arteta may be about to repeat the biggest transfer mistake he’s ever made at Arsenal - opinion

Arsenal are going to make some serious moves in this summer transfer window.

Indeed, it would appear that the Gunners aren’t messing about this summer, and there are already some interesting things happening behind the scenes.

Martin Zubimendi is set to sign for Arsenal this summer, while Arsenal are set to sign a striker this summer.

Benjamin Sesko has been linked to Arsenal, while Viktor Gyokeres is also on Arsenal’s list.

Arsenal are also in for another winger this summer, Nico Williams has been linked to Arsenal, while another interesting rumour surrounding the Gunners has now emerged.

Leroy Sane has been linked to Arsenal, and while this is an exciting rumour, there’s reason to be concerned about this deal.

Leroy Sane could be another Raheem Sterling for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta signing Leroy Sane for Arsenal, on paper, makes a lot of sense.

Indeed, Sane and Arteta have a great relationship together from their time at Manchester City, and if he can rekindle that sort of connection at Arsenal, he could be a star.

However, we have been in this exact situation before.

Indeed, cast your mind back a few months, and you’ll remember that when Raheem Sterling arrived at Arsenal on loan from Chelsea a similar sort of thing was said.

Of course, Sterling has been a huge flop at Arsenal since arriving last summer, and it’s fair to say the Sterling signing may be Mikel Arteta’s biggest ever transfer mistake at Arsenal.

Leroy Sane compared to Raheem Sterling

Comparing Sane to Sterling may seem a tad unfair. After all, Sane has scored 11 goals this season and he’s performed fairly well for Bayern Munich.

However, the season before Sterling joined Arsenal, he was putting up respectable numbers in the Premier League for Chelsea – not so different to what Sane has been doing this season.

Raheem Sterling last season Leroy Sane this season

31 Games 30

8 Goals 11

4 Assists 5

Factor in the relative strength of the Bundesliga and the Premier League, Sterling and Sane aren’t all that different at those respective stages of their careers.

At the age of 29, Sane is at a similar stage in his career to Sterling as well, so that inevitable decline that almost every player experiences into their 30s may begin soon.

This transfer does make sense in some ways, but after Arteta made a big mistake with Sterling last year, the Gunners certainly don’t want to repeat this trick.
