'The only…' – Ruben Amorim breaks silence on his biggest flaw and tells Man Utd fans that he's 'trying to control' it

Ruben Amorim has said that he is focusing on improving one part of himself after he admitted a major weakness that he has shown as Manchester United manager.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager saw out the remainder of the Red Devils’ lacklustre 2024-25 season after he arrived at Old Trafford in 2024.

Ruben Amorim became a key target for United after his impressive managerial work at Sporting CP and the Portuguese coach left his native homeland last November.

The former Sporting CP boss replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout and the Red Devils struggled over the course of the Premier League season.

Erik ten Hag’s reign as United manager had come to an end last October after the Premier League club sacked the former Ajax boss amid a poor start to the campaign.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was assistant manager in Ten Hag’s former United coaching staff, served as interim manager after his Dutch compatriot was axed.

Ruben Amorim has noticed what he does as Man Utd manager and he is now trying to ‘control’ it

Ruben Amorim oversaw the Red Devils’ 15th-place finish in the Premier League table and Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham last season.

The Red Devils head coach came within touching distance of securing silverware, only for United to fall short to Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final.

United’s failure to capture the Europa League trophy also ended the Red Devils’ hopes of securing Champions League football for the 2025-26 campaign.

The Red Devils’ league standing in the 2024-25 campaign means that United won’t have any kind of European football at Old Trafford next season.

Amorim has been cutthroat with his approach after matches, including calling his current side possibly the “worst team” in United’s history back in January.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim admitted that he has been “really frustrated” after matches and the United boss is trying to “control” it now.

“It’s more than a coach,” he said on Thursday, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“On this tour, I had a small meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia. You have to improve as a person, as a leader, you have to control the momentum.

“Sometimes after games, you see [that] I’m really frustrated; I’m trying to control that.

“The only thing I want is to improve the team and have results. When you have results, you can manage the team so much easier.”
