Liverpool make Real Madrid pay massive fee as Trent Alexander-Arnold joins early

Liverpool have landed a huge windfall as Trent Alexander-Arnold has been confirmed as a Real Madrid player.

Alexander-Arnold announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season once his contract had expired.

However, Madrid had pushed to bring him to Spain before his contract had expired so he could be part of their set-up for the Club World Cup.

Madrid had offered £850k to get him out of his contract early, however, according to reports, the Reds have managed to land a £10m windfall for Alexander-Arnold despite him having played his last game for the club.

The Spanish giants confirmed his arrival in a statement: "Real Madrid C.F. and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement that will tie Trent Alexander-Arnold to our club for the next six seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031."

The deal will officially go through on Sunday, when the transfer window opens, allowing Alexander-Arnold to join Madrid for the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States starting on June 14.

Madrid's first game, and the first chance for Alexander-Arnold to turn out alongside his team-mates, is on June 18 against Al-Hilal.

Alexander-Arnold had faced backlash from Liverpool fans after announcing he was leaving the club - and he was heavily booed when appearing as a substitute at Anfield.

However, he was met with applause on the final day of the season against Crystal Palace.

The full-back struggled to hold back the tears as he spoke to Sky Sports after the clash: "I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield today after what had happened.

"But I wanted to play for the club one more time, I told the manager, and he trusted me. The reception I got means so much to me. I have never felt more loved and more cared for than today.

"I hope that one day the fans and supporters of this club are able to recognise the hard work I put in for this team. From six to 26, 20 years is a very long time. I have loved every second of it, it has been an honour and a privilege to be a part of this club.

"I'll remember these moments for the rest of my life. This day will go down as the best in my life."
