Good Morning, Broncos Country!
The Broncos hit the field for the first time this offseason to take part in OTA practices. One player absent from these practices is veteran defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers. He is entering the final year of his deal with the team and has been vocal on social media about wanting to be paid, but thankfully, his absence has nothing to do with his contract.
Relax on John Franklin-Myers not at voluntary OTAs. Not a contract protest. His agent Cliff Brady:
“JFM hasn’t been to OTAs for a few years now. No contract issues. He’ll be there for mini-camp.
He’s currently working his ass off to have the best season of his career.”

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, JFM’s agent Cliff Brady said that Franklin-Myers has not attended OTAs for a few years now, there are no contract issues, and he’ll be there for the mandatory minicamp in a few weeks. He concluded by saying that JFM is currently “working his ass off” to have the best season of his career.
Crisis averted.
Franklin-Myers is a key part of the Broncos' defense as he provides some much-needed interior pressure in Vance Joseph’s top-ranked defense. He is coming off a career-high 7-sack season for the Broncos last season and pairs with Zach Allen in the interior of the Broncos' attacking defense.
While Franklin-Myers wants a new contract from the Broncos, he has to wait in line. Veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton, defensive end Zach Allen, and edge rusher Nik Bonitto are all pending free agents this offseason and are likely higher priorities for the Broncos. It’ll be interesting to see how the Broncos navigate this moving forward and to see who does and who does not receive an extension from the team.
