Manchester United have had a disastrous season as they finish in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time, ending the season in 15th place.

Unfortunately, whilst there were several significant factors to this result, one major issue has been the problematic performances from first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Throughout the season, Onana’s decision making, positioning and communication were a lot to be desired, even ranking as top of Premier League goalkeepers to make mistakes ending in goals conceded.

That said, the Cameroon international is on the brink of making Manchester United history, with a double nomination to a Premier League award never won by a Manchester United keeper.

Andre Onana gets double nomination for Save of the Season

Andre Onana has not only received a nomination for the Premier League Save of the Season, but he’s one of three keepers to have two entries, alongside Arsenal’s David Raya and Bournemouth’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

This season, Onana was awarded two Save of the Month awards in the first half of the season, with both now being entered for the end of season award.

Onana’s first nomination comes for his incredible double save to deny Eddie Nketiah and Ismaila Sarr when United drew with Crystal Palace back in September, earning him the September Save of the Month.

His second entry comes cutesy of his November Save of the Month, where he denied United target Liam Delap from a one-on-one opportunity at Portman Road.

The Save of the Season award was introduced in the 2021/22 season, so admittedly there haven’t been many keepers or United to be eligible for it, however a win would still put Onana in the history books.
