Arsenal have started negotiations to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed.
Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta and RB Leipzig executive Marcel Schafer reportedly met in London a few days ago to discuss potential terms for a deal involving the 'incredible' 21-year-old starlet.
Plettenberg claims it remains unclear whether Arsenal will be able to meet Leipzig’s demands for Sesko this summer, as his release clause is set at over €80m (£67m).
Discussions are ongoing over a possible payment structure, with Arsenal’s focus now firmly on landing Sesko instead of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.
Sesko, who joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023, is coming off a career-best season in Germany, with 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
The Slovenia international is expected to depart the German club in the coming months or even weeks, despite penning a new four-year contract last year.
Sesko was targeted by Arsenal twice in the past 12 months, as the Gunners showed interest in both of the last two transfer windows.
The 21-year-old attacker has always been among Arsenal’s options as a potential striker target, alongside Gyokeres, who is soon expected to make a decision over his next career move.
Arsenal are set to welcome Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as their first summer signing, having reached an agreement in principle with the Spanish star.
The deal is now believed to be in its final stages, with the Gunners expected to pay the 26-year-old's €60m (£51m) release clause.
