Wolves have been linked with a rising star ahead of the summer transfer window.
Wolves went on an outstanding run of form in the spring to steer well clear of relegation worries, but still finished 16th in what is becoming an increasingly competitive Premier League. The rise of historical minnows such as Bournemouth and Brighton has consigned the likes of recent European challengers Wolves and West Ham United to multiple bottom-half finishes, but all that goes to show is how quickly things can change with good management and recruitment.
The Old Gold have been known to make major profit on key players spotted early in their careers, and so picking up young players with high potential is a key part of the club’s model. Their latest star for the future could be about to come through the door, with fresh links arising between Wolves and a Liverpool wonderkid.
Wolverhampton Wanderers linked with Liverpool academy wonderkid
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there is “genuine interest” from Wolves towards Liverpool teenager Kieran Morrison, with the West Midlands outfit reportedly approaching Liverpool about the 18-year-old talent in an attempt to bring him to Molineux. Morrison is “on the shortlist” for Wolves according to transfer expert Romano, amidst interest around Europe in the 2006-born midfielder.
This could be an expert early pick-up by Wanderers, as Morrison is yet to make his first-team debut but is highly regarded by the club, having been poached from arch-rivals Manchester United earlier in his youth career. The 2006-born starlet has scored 19 goals in 66 appearances for Liverpool’s youth teams, and could be a star of the future at Molineux if Pereira’s side are able to get a deal done. It remains unclear at this point whether Liverpool would be open to a permanent transfer or to a loan move for the Northern Ireland youth international.
Kieran Morrison has previously attracted interest from European giants
This is not the first time that Morrison has attracted keen interest from elsewhere, as Caught Offside reported last year that there was interest in the wonderkid from major clubs in England and in Germany, amidst rumours of a new contract being readied at Anfield. That contract was eventually signed.
Fabrizio Romano said last year of the interest: “English and German clubs wanted him before this agreement, so it looks like a good move by Liverpool to secure his future. In terms of what happens next, whether he gets a chance in the first-team or goes out on loan, this is not something clear now, we will see next season with new manager and with new director what they decide to do in terms of loan and similar. Now the mission was his contract extension; and it’s done.”
Just a year on, it looks as though Morrison may in fact be on the move as he seeks first-team football to truly ignite his promising young career. The path to the first team at Molineux could be a clearer one than at the Premier League champions, so a potential move could work out for all parties. Wolves will hope to get a move over the line, knowing that they could have on their hands a potential star for the future.
