Sami Mokbel broke the news for the BBC on Thursday that Arsenal are in advanced talks with Gabriel Magalhaes over a new contract, with the defender’s current terms set to expire in 2027.

Negotiations have reportedly accelerated, with an agreement now close. Mokbel adds that Gabriel is expected to be fit for the start of the 2025/26 campaign, following his recent injury absence.

James McNicholas writes for The Athletic that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has made talks with Gabriel’s representatives a priority since joining the club, as well as opening talks with William Saliba earlier this month.

It seems Gabriel is now ready to commit his future, which would be great news for Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that Arsenal are on the verge of an agreement, adding that the new deal would be valid until 2030. Gabriel is currently 27 years old, so that contract would take him through to age 32.

Despite injury ruling him out for the final couple of months of the 2024/25 campaign, Gabriel played 42 times for Arsenal this season, scoring five goals and proving a major threat on set-pieces.

The Gunners lost that threat in April and May, as well as losing Gabriel’s commanding defensive presence at the back.

The fans will be keen to welcome the Brazilian international back as soon as possible in pre-season, ideally having put pen to paper on this new deal.
