Liam Delap has ‘given the green light’ to a summer move to CHELSEA despite agreeing personal terms with Manchester United, according to reports in the media this week.
Ipswich won just four of their 38 league games but a difficult return to the English top-flight did not prevent Delap from impressing with 12 goals.
It was reported last week that Delap had agreed personal terms with United, who in turn had informed Ipswich of their desire to meet his release clause, But while Delap verbally agreed terms with Manchester United, who endured a miserable season, he was still to make a final decision over his next club.
According to talkSPORT, Delap has now ‘given the green light’ to Stamford Bridge and is closing in on a switch to Stamford Bridge as he would prefer to make the move to the Blues as he would like to play Champions League football next season.
Amid all the speculation and rumours, Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell waxed lyrical about Delap’s potential, even likening the Ipswich centre-forward’s game to that of a young Alan Shearer.
‘He fits the bill. He’s young and hungry, he’s someone that the coach here can develop,’ Sidwell responded.
‘He kind of reminds me of a young Alan Shearer when he was at Southampton then went to Blackburn.
‘He’s robust, he’s an out-and-out number nine, he knows where the goal is, he can score a goal.
‘I think that’s a good shout.’
