“I hear…” - Insider says Everton now considering major contract U-turn on £100,000-a-week star

Everton are set to part ways with Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to former scout Mick Brown via Football Insider.

It was a season of two halves for Everton. Under Sean Dyche, the club looked set for yet another relegation battle and were struggling for consistency. The ex-Burnley boss was sacked in January by the Friedkin Group, who had taken over the club in the previous month, and replaced by David Moyes.

Moyes, in his second stint as Everton manager 12 years after his first tenure ended, has stabilised the club, guiding them to a comfortable mid-table finish, well away from the bottom three. With a reliable manager at the helm, new owners and a new stadium, the Toffees can finally feel optimistic once more. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, it appears Everton are preparing for a departure from their squad.

Mick Brown has said, as per Football Insider, that Everton are willing to let striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin depart for free this summer. The striker has been an Evertonian for almost a decade, having joined them from Sheffield United in 2016. Calvert-Lewin has showcased his brilliant talent over the years, but has struggled for consistent fitness. Brown said:

“Everton wanted to hand him a new deal, but I hear they might be easing away from that now. His injury issues have been a major concern because every time it looks like he’s making a comeback, he’s ruled out for another two or three months. David Moyes can’t afford to keep a player on big wages who can’t play for most of the season.”

Everton debated keeping Calvert-Lewin but, as Brown said, it appears the Toffees are too concerned about the striker’s injuries, especially when he earns £100,000 per week according to Capology. Multiple clubs have been reported to have an interest in Calvert-Lewin, who now looks set to be playing elsewhere in the coming season.

Where Calvert-Lewin ends up remains to be seen, though it would certainly appear that the long-serving Toffee will be departing Merseyside upon the expiration of his contract.
