On a historic night in Wroclaw, Levi Colwill stood tall among the Chelsea contingent as we claimed a resounding 4-1 victory over Real Betis to lift the Conference League trophy.
For the young defender, this was more than just another medal - it was the culmination of a season’s hard work, a personal milestone, and a glimpse of the bright future he hopes to continue to carve out at the Bridge.
While the Blues have become the first club to complete the full set of major European honours, for Colwill, the moment was deeply personal. Having come through our Cobham Academy, earned a spot in the first team, and now helped deliver silverware for his boyhood club, the 22-year-old was visibly beaming as he soaked up the celebrations.
‘To be the first club to have won everything possible, you can see the fans celebrating now, and it shows how much it means to them,’ Colwill said proudly after full-time.
Colwill’s influence was felt the moment he stepped into the fray, with all four of the Blues’ goals coming during Levi’s half-hour on the pitch, helping to push us forward after a testing opening spell.
‘We knew they were going to be a good team, especially at the start with their fans pushing them on, but we knew it was going to die off,’ he explained. ‘We just had to wait and pick our moments and that is what we did in the second half.’
Colwill’s maturity was clear as he spoke about how he prepared himself while watching from the touchline.
‘Watching from the bench, you can see where the spaces are and how you can help the team,’ he said. ‘When I came on for Benny \[Badiashile\], I could see he was working so hard and then the gaps were open. He did that for me, laid the foundations for me.’
The win capped off a remarkable week for Colwill and his teammates, who also secured Champions League football for next season - a major objective achieved alongside the European trophy.
‘It has been amazing,’ Colwill reflected. ‘We have achieved everything we wanted to do. It feels amazing winning my first European competition with Chelsea, hopefully many more to go. And getting Champions League for next season, I don't think you can get any better than that.’
