Ruben Amorim backed by Manchester United trio

Manchester United’s pre-season schedule is beginning to take shape, with the squad set to embark on a global tour under new leadership and a fresh sense of purpose.

With United failing to qualify for the Champions League, Ruben Amorim’s campaign in charge is already under the microscope as fans demand progress and consistency.

INEOS are working behind the scenes to strengthen the squad, but also to reinforce a culture of accountability after a historically poor Premier League finish.

Despite the growing uncertainty around key players such as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, United’s focus appears to be shifting towards building trust and unity within the dressing room.

This week, that spirit was on display in Mumbai as three first-team players gave an honest assessment of the club’s turbulent 2024/25 season.

As part of United We Play Season 5, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, and Andre Onana visited India to meet fans and young footballers while offering revealing insight into the dressing room mood.

Harry Maguire, who captained the club before being stripped of the armband last year, accepted collective blame for United’s disastrous league run as he spoke to NDTV.

“Players have to take responsibility,” said the England centre-back.

“We slipped in the Premier League.

“We were more focused on the Europa League, but that’s no excuse.”

He also praised head coach Ruben Amorim for managing under difficult conditions: “Ruben’s come in a difficult situation.

“He hasn’t signed many players and lost two attackers in January.

“We left ourselves short at the top end of the pitch. He’s a great manager and he will be successful here.”

Goalkeeper Onana echoed the sentiment: “People called Amorim the worst manager, and he’s not.

“He has his ideas and won’t change his style. We have to adapt.

“He’s a fantastic manager and we’re all behind him.”

Dalot added, “He’s the right man to guide us.

“He has a lot of faith in us, and I am very confident he will be the man to lead us.”

With public backing from senior players, Ruben Amorim may yet have the time and trust to reset United’s trajectory.
