Tottenham Overtake Chelsea in Race for Bayern Munich Winger

Tottenham Hotspur have been identified as a potential destination for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane. The 29-year-old, who Chelsea have shown interest in, will be eligible to sign with another club at the end of June.

The German international has turned down Bayern’s new offer of a contract, opening the door to a Premier League return. He has been on the target list of many English clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal. However, Tottenham are said to be the most interested in signing the former Manchester City player.

The club’s entry into the Champions League following the recent Europa League has made them attractive to potential targets. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has verified that the player turned down the offer from the club to extend the contract. The club offered a €10 million guaranteed salary and €5 million worth of bonuses. Negotiations fell through after Sane changed agents to Pini Zahavi, who is asking for better terms for the player.

Despite the deadlock over the contract, Sane has never wanted to leave Bayern, citing that he feels comfortable at the club. However, the failure to agree on an extension has drawn other interested parties. Arsenal are now managed by Mikel Arteta, his former boss at Manchester City. They are said to be interested in signing the winger as well.

Sane’s likely return to the Premier League is made even more complicated by interest from other clubs. Galatasaray have offered the winger a massive contract of €10 million net per year, which is more than Bayern’s offer. However, Sane has always preferred a return to England, where he did so well at Manchester City.

Chelsea Continue Chase For Attacking Players

Chelsea will go large this summer to sign attacking players, as they return to the Champions League under Enzo Maresca. The Blues have already triggered the £30 million release clause for striker Liam Delap.

Aside from the Ipswich Town striker, the Blues are also interested in Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP. They are also tracking RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but with his £62 million release clause, things might get tricky.

On the wing, Chelsea are keen on signing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who is estimated to be valued at €100 million. The club are also considering making Jadon Sancho’s loan a permanent one, but his reported £350,000-a-week salary remains an issue.
