Former NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp pleaded guilty to an assault charge earlier this week after allegedly shooting at two men inside of a vehicle in a mall parking lot in Washington in 2023, according to [the Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/shawn-kemp-nba-guilty-plea-shooting-7bd12c50659a4e438341b71c3fa5a23c).
The report states that Kemp pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in Tacoma, Washington as part of a plea agreement.
Kemp allegedly shot at a Toyota 4Runner that two men were inside of back in March of 2023. The 4Runner and another vehicle were damaged in the shooting, but the two men were not.
Prior to the plea agreement, Shawn Kemp was reportedly facing multiple charges and could have faced a lengthy prison sentence. He was initially charged with first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement. Kemp is slated to be sentenced in August.
The 55-year-old Kemp spent 14 seasons in the NBA and was named an all-star six times. Kemp also earned second-team All-NBA honors three times.
A native of Indiana, Shawn Kemp was a McDonald’s All-American and First-Team Parade All-American coming out of high school.
Kemp played for the Seattle Supersonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic over the course of his NBA career.
Shawn Kemp averaged 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds across his time in the NBA. While Kemp is best known for his time with the Supersonics, he averaged a career high 20.5 points per game during the 1998-99 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
