Trent Alexander-Arnold takes swift Liverpool action after Real Madrid transfer confirmed

Trent Alexander-Arnold is officially set to join Real Madrid from Liverpool, and sooner than anticipated, with the Reds poised to pocket a fee this June. The 26-year-old has swiftly switched his allegiance from his childhood club to his new one.

Liverpool was at risk of losing its vice-captain for free when his contract expired on June 30, but with the FIFA Club World Cup happening next month and Real Madrid participating, there was an opportunity to negotiate a fee to speed up the process.

The clubs have now reached such an agreement, effective from Sunday, June 1, allowing the Reds to earn a substantial fee while deducting one month's wages from their bill, totalling $13.5 million (£10 million).

During Sunday's Premier League title celebrations, and the trophy parade the following day, Alexander-Arnold was tearful over his farewell, but he's now focusing on his new challenge.

Just minutes after the deal was made public, the 26-year-old replaced Liverpool's name with Real Madrid's in his Instagram bio.

Real Madrid's interest has been no secret throughout the recent 2024/2025 season, with an attempt made in January to persuade Liverpool into an early sale, which was immediately rejected.

In the last six months of his contract with the Reds, the player was free to negotiate with Real Madrid and other clubs. This led to an agreement resulting from such discussions.

His older brother, Tyler, who runs PLG Agency, acted as his agent during these negotiations. He confirmed the agreement by sharing Real Madrid's Instagram post on his own profile.

Alexander-Arnold's other brother, Marcell, also expressed his joy over the transfer. He re-shared the same Real Madrid tweet on his Instagram story, adding three white circle emojis for emphasis.
